After some basic concepts of fuzzy theory are briefly recalled, the problem of evaluating the student’s knowledge state is investigated and a suitable fuzzy measure is introduced. The properties of the measure are discussed and a heuristic is illustrated which uses the measure to deal with the student’s current learning level as regards a specific topic. Finally, it is shown how this assessment can be used by the teaching module to improve its tutoring strategies.

Abstract
