Mating in the aphid parasitoid Praon volucre is mediated by a female- produced sex pheromone, which laboratory behavioral studies suggest is released from the abdomen. Gas chromatography coupled with elctrophysiological and behavioral assays on males showed one area of activity in an air entrainment sample of virgin females. However, levels of pheromone production are very low and this has so far precluded its identification.
