Flagellin gene was used as the target sequence to detect and distinguish C. coli and C. jejune by a "nested PCR" technique. The method shows a high level os sensitivity and specificity. Application of this rapid diagnostic tool could provide further information about epidemiological and pathogenic implications of each of two microorganisms.

Abstract
