The characterization of a fully stabilized mode-locked fiber laser is reported. The laser consists of all-polarization preserving fiber components to avoid the instabilities due to fluctuations of the polarization state of the light circulating inside the cavity. A regular train of pulses is generated at 10 GHz repetition rate; the repetition frequency of the pulse train is controlled by an electronic phase locked loop circuit. The stability of the source has been tested by means of error rate measurements with a 10 Gbit/s bit error-rate test set. The results confirmed the high reliability of the source.

Abstract

The characterization of a fully stabilized mode-locked fiber laser is reported. The laser consists of all-polarization preserving fiber components to avoid the instabilities due to fluctuations of the polarization state of the light circulating inside the cavity. A regular train of pulses is generated at 10 GHz repetition rate; the repetition frequency of the pulse train is controlled by an electronic phase locked loop circuit. The stability of the source has been tested by means of error rate measurements with a 10 Gbit/s bit error-rate test set. The results confirmed the high reliability of the source.
