The article is based on the problems encountered in the Italian translation of the speech held on the occasion of the Nobel Prize award. It considers some of Elfriede Jelinek’s rhetorical strategies, and particularly his comparisons. There then follow some reflections on specific expressions in the speech, such as the title, and the allegory of language as dog.
