Although every scientific contribution emphasizes the aspect that autism is to be considered a life-long syndrome, there are still only a few research works which study autism in adulthood and, more importantly, the supportive interventions which focus on the person and on his/her family during such a delicate period. This article reviews the literature that refers to the progression in life of autistic persons, focusing on a number of important aspects, also from the assistance standpoint: the levels of autonomy which are reached in adulthood; the progression of the characteristic symptoms; the influence of activities which improve people’s abilities and the significant experience to improve the person’s general condition and their level of adaptation to the environment.
