Within the framework of Γ-convergence theory we derive a continuum model for the in-plane deformations of cellular materials with honeycomb texture. At variance with other authors’ results, the effective medium does not develop couple stresses, although it exhibits some mild trait of polarity. General stress–strain relations, yield domain and stability thresholds are deduced.

Abstract
