Abstract

Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) seed oil is considered to be one of the best plant oils from a nutritional point of view due to its beneficial effects on human health. Through a factorial screening design the effect on yield of some supercritical CO 2 extraction (SC-CO 2) operative parameters such as temperature (40°-80°C), pressure (200-400 bar) and amount of CO 2 passing through the extractor (30-60 CO 2/kg kg feed) were evaluated. The maximum yield of oil extraction, equal to 21.50 (% w/w), was obtained under the following operating conditions: 40°C, 300 bar and 45 kg CO 2/kg feed. FAMEs composition of oil obtained by supercritical CO 2 was compared with that obtained by solvent extraction. The oxidation stability of oil obtained by SC-CO 2 resulted 1.87 (±5.60) in Eq α toc/mL of oil, value approximately two-fold that of an extra virgin olive oi
